Privacy Policy for Dinify

This Privacy Policy describes how Dini Ilm ("we", "us", "our") handles information in connection with the Dinify mobile application (the "App"). We built Dinify to respect your privacy and collect as little as possible.

1. Two kinds of data, kept separate

It matters which part of the App you are using:

• The main App — no account, stored on your device. Prayer and fasting logs, deeds, routines, dua/gratitude/sadaqah journals, tasbih counts, Hifz (memorization) progress, bookmarks and settings are stored locally on your device only. We do not upload, sync or store this content on our servers.
• Scholars Q&A — account required, stored on our servers. This section lets you ask verified scholars questions and take part in public discussion. It cannot work without an account and without storing your content, because other users must be able to see and answer it.

You can use everything else in Dinify without ever opening Scholars Q&A, and without creating an account.

2. Scholars Q&A — what we collect and why

When you create an account for Scholars Q&A we collect:

• Email address — used to sign you in with a one-time code. We do not use passwords, and we do not send marketing email.
• Display name, username and profile photo — shown beside anything you post. All optional except a username.
• Your content — questions, answers, comments, posts, poll votes, and any images you choose to attach.
• Private messages — available only between verified scholarly accounts. These are end-to-end encrypted; we cannot read them.
• Sign-in records — the IP address and device/browser description of each sign-in, kept for security, fraud prevention and legal compliance. These are visible only to our administrators and never to other users.
• Notification token — a device identifier used only to deliver notifications you have opted into.

3. Your content in Scholars Q&A is public

Please read this before posting. Questions, answers, comments and posts in Scholars Q&A are visible to other users of the App. Do not include private information you do not wish others to see.

Anonymous questions. Ordinary users may post a question anonymously. Your name and photo are then hidden from other users — but the question remains linked to your account internally, so that our moderators can act on abuse. Anonymous posting is not available to verified scholarly accounts, whose content always appears under their own identity.

4. Photos and your gallery

If you set a profile picture or attach an image, the App opens your device's photo picker so you can choose a specific image. We never scan or read your photo library — only the images you deliberately select are uploaded, and only for the purpose you chose them for. You can remove an attachment before posting, and delete your profile picture at any time.

5. Moderation, reporting and blocking

Because Scholars Q&A carries content written by other people, we operate the following safeguards:

• Text is checked automatically before it is saved; abusive content is refused and certain sensitive words are masked so scholarly discussion remains possible.
• Any user can report a question, answer, comment, post or account, with a reason. Reports reach our administrators for review.
• Any user can block or mute another user. Blocking is mutual and prevents contact; muting simply hides their content from you. Neither is announced to the other person.
• Administrators can remove content that breaks our rules and can suspend accounts.
• The author of a question or post can turn off comments on it, and can delete their own content at any time.

Scholar verification badges are issued only by our administrators after reviewing submitted credentials. Users cannot claim a badge themselves.

6. Information processed to provide other features

• Location (approximate and/or precise): used only to calculate prayer times, the Qibla direction, your local Hijri date, and to find nearby mosques. Your coordinates are sent to third-party prayer-time and mapping providers (see Section 9). We do not store your location.
• Microphone / Audio and Speech Recognition: captured only while you actively use a voice feature (voice-counted tasbih/dhikr, recitation checking during memorization, and voice search). Your speech is processed by your device's speech-recognition service to convert it to text. We do not record, keep, or upload audio ourselves.
• Device motion / magnetometer sensors: used on your device to point the Qibla compass. This sensor data is not transmitted off your device.

7. Analytics and Crash Reporting

The App does not include any third-party analytics or advertising software development kits (SDKs). We do not track your behavior across apps or build advertising profiles, and we do not sell personal information. Because the App is distributed through Google Play, Google may automatically collect basic, aggregated crash and performance diagnostics (Android Vitals) under its own policies; this is standard for all Android apps and is not personally identifying.

8. Device Permissions

The App requests only the permissions needed for the features you use. You can grant or revoke any of them at any time in your device settings; features that rely on a denied permission simply will not work.

• Microphone (Record Audio): for voice tasbih counting, recitation checking, and voice search.
• Speech Recognition: to transcribe your voice into text for the features above.
• Location (coarse and fine): for prayer times, Qibla, the local Hijri date, and nearby mosques.
• Photos / Media: to let you choose a profile picture or an image to attach in Scholars Q&A. Only the image you pick is accessed.
• Notifications and Alarms (exact alarm): to deliver the Adhan, your reminders, and Scholars Q&A notifications you have opted into.
• Foreground Service / Media Playback and Wake Lock: to keep Quran audio playing in the background and on the lock screen while you listen.
• Storage / Files: to save your content and cache Quran and Hadith text and media on your device for offline use.

9. Third-Party Services and APIs

To deliver its core functionality, the App connects to trusted third-party services and application programming interfaces (APIs). When a feature you use requires it, the minimum necessary data (for example, your location, a search term, or text/audio you provide) is transmitted to the relevant provider only to fulfill that request.

Translation and speech input (please note): When you use translation or voice features, your input (text and/or audio) is transmitted to third-party API providers specifically for translation and speech-to-text purposes. Text you choose to translate is sent to third-party translation APIs, and your voice audio is sent to your device's/operating system's speech-recognition provider to be converted into text. This data sharing is required for the core functionality of the App — these features cannot work without transmitting your input to those providers. Your input is used only to perform the requested translation or transcription; we do not use it for advertising.

The categories of third-party services the App uses include:

• Backend and account platform — hosts Scholars Q&A accounts, content and uploaded images, and delivers sign-in codes by email.
• Object storage and content delivery — stores scholar verification documents privately, and delivers Mushaf page images, reciter photos, prayer-guide images, and audio.
• Push notification service — delivers notifications to your device.
• Translation providers — to translate learning content and text into your chosen language.
• Speech-recognition provider — your device's speech service, to transcribe voice input.
• Prayer-time and geolocation providers — to return prayer times and resolve place names from coordinates.
• Quran and Hadith content providers — to fetch Quran text and audio and Hadith collections and translations.
• Map data providers — to locate mosques near you.

Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy. We do not sell your personal information.

10. Scholar applications

If you apply to be a verified scholar, you provide your name, contact details, institution, qualifications and supporting documents. These documents are stored in private storage and are never publicly accessible; they are viewed only by our administrators, through time-limited secure links, for the purpose of reviewing your application.

11. In-App Browser (Dini Aalim)

The "Dini Aalim" feature opens a trusted Islamic scholarly website inside an in-app browser so you can read answers on that site. When you use it, your request goes directly to that third-party website, which operates under its own privacy policy. We do not copy or store its content.

12. Data Retention and Deletion

• On-device content stays on your device for as long as the App is installed. You can delete it within the App, by clearing the App's storage in your device settings, or by uninstalling the App.
• Scholars Q&A content can be deleted by you at any time from within the App.
• Your account can be deleted from Account settings inside Scholars Q&A. This removes your profile and personal details.
• What we keep after deletion: sign-in records (IP and device description) and moderation records are retained for a limited period for security, fraud prevention and legal compliance. Content that others have replied to may be retained in an anonymised form so that those replies remain intelligible.

13. Security

We apply reasonable technical measures to protect information handled by the App. Network requests are made over secure connections (HTTPS). Access to Scholars Q&A data is restricted at the database level so that users can only read and change what they are entitled to, and private messages between verified accounts are end-to-end encrypted. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

14. Children's Privacy

The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under the age at which data consent is required in your jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

15. Your Rights

You control your on-device content directly and can view or delete it at any time. For Scholars Q&A, you can access, correct and delete your profile and content from within the App, and delete your account entirely. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights — including access, correction, deletion, portability and objection. Contact us to exercise them and we will respond within the period required by applicable law.

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
